Helene Cleanup Program

In the months following Helene a funding source was identified and secured through a partnership with Southwestern Commission and NC CareerWorks to create a Cleanup Program that focuses on litter removal across floodplains and waterways impacted by Helene.

The Cleanup Program began December 1st and as of January 2025 the crew size is currently at 12 members, with plans to increase in size this spring and summer (no positions are available at this time).

The program is simple by design. We can bring a cleanup crew to your property to remove trash and litter under 40lbs (no woody debris), then schedule and assist in the removal of that debris, free of charge.

If you are interested or know someone who could use our assistance, please email us at [email protected].

This program is funded through 2025 with hopes of being extended into 2026. Stay tuned for more information!

Areas of Work

Our Mission

To maintain and improve surface water quality in the Pigeon River Watershed of Haywood County, North Carolina.

We accomplish this through two objectives directed at reducing nonpoint source pollution:

  1. Educating and focusing attention on the watershed as a natural, economic and recreational resource to be conserved and enhanced for this and future generations; and
  2. Working with public agencies, conservation interests, businesses, community groups, and public and private land owners to implement water quality improvement strategies.
