Watershed Action Plan

Starting with the public forums in May of 2000, the Watershed Action Plan for the Pigeon River Watershed has been gradually taking shape. This plan is a cooperative effort between the 23 members of the HWA Technical Advisory Committee. These members bring hundreds of years of experience and strong professional backgrounds to the issue of how to reduce non-point pollution in the Pigeon River Watershed.

The plan includes natural and historic perspectives on the watershed. It summarizes the available water quality data for the watershed. Using the latest Geographic Information System data, it identifies the sources of non-point pollution. Watershed conditions by 4 sub-watersheds (Upper Pigeon, Lower Pigeon, Richland Creek, and Jonathan Creek) are outlined.

The plan then identifies possible ways to address the issues, and selects a number of recommended strategies. These strategies are more fully developed in an Addendum to the plan.
